The Bowles of Wexford, co. Wexford

See also The Bowles of co. Wexford for references elsewhere in the county.

There is one very early reference which may or may not be a Bowles in the parish register for Wexford (C of I):
Nathannele son of Thomas Bohl christened 20th Nov 1677.

While Thomas is a common given name in the Bowles family in this area, Nathaniel does not appear again and there are no further references from this early.

The earliest definite reference that I have for a Bowles in Wexford is a Deed Memorial 53899 dated in 1734 referring to a Thomas Bowles of the Town of Wexford, Gent. who is the lessor of some land in St. Iberius parish.  This memorial also refers to a John Bowles of Lechlade in the county of Gloucester and who likely was the same person as the John Bowles who we know was in Dublin until 1730, which may give us a clue to their origins although not necessarily.  See Thomas Bowles and Family of Dublin for more on that family.

In Wexford (town) proper we have:

James Bowles
1. James Bowles (b. 1806)
m.(1) Ellen Free Aug. 19, 1845 Tomhaggard, co. Wexford (civil. reg. vol. 10, p. 483)
m.(2) Anne Culleton (b. 1816 John) Nov. 5, 1866 Wexford, co. Wexford (civil reg. vol. 19, p. 530)
