Richard of Bally…)
(he was admitted as a Freeman at Large for Cork city, as the eldest son
of John Boles, Gent, deceased, Jan. 9, 1754 (The Council Book of the
Corporation of the City of Cork), that would have given him the right to
trade within the city but it doesn't necessarily mean he was a merchant,
it may just have been to market the produce of his own estate)
3.2.2 John Boles (an
apothecary of Cork city with landholdings in Mallow and Cork city in 1760,
1771, 1773; at Charitable Infirmary in 1760; appointed by trustees of North

1771; granted land at Mallow and Cork to Sarah Boles, widow, of
Mogeely, witnessed George Bowles of Curriglass Esq. in 1773

3.2.2.1 the Catholic Boles living at Ballysheehan in the 1901 and
1911 censuses indicate that possibly there was a relation of John's who is not mentioned in the Boles
family history, perhaps as he married a Catholic woman; he could be the
source of the Catholic Boles line in this area; a little
later on there was a John Boles, born about 1820, who married a
Catherine Leahy (or Lee or Lyhane) and baptized five children in the
Catholic church at Banteer between 1847 and 1858; the 1901 and 1911
censuses list those children living together at house #3 in Ballysheehan
along with a cousin Denis Leahane; see The Catholic Boles Line in the
Mallow Area)
