Bowles DNA Project
Two entirely separate (so far) Bowles families have emigrated from
England and ended up in the Swan River Valley.
Charles and Alice Bowles of London, England came to Canada in 1902 and settled in the Big Woody District about 10 miles from Swan River. Their story is told on a Heartland family history page: "Charles & Alice Bowles" Note: the Heartland Genealogy site had disappeared when I checked in Feb. 2010 but I found an old copy and have reproduced the text of that page HERE.
I have also pieced together the Charles Bowles of Big Woody's Family Tree from various web sites. Charles had the first Post Office in the district in his home from Oct. 1, 1914 to Aug. 23, 1919 when he moved to Swan River. His son, Gordon took over the Post Office from Jan. 15, 1920 until it was closed March 9, 1928. Ref.
Another Bowles family came to Canada from Worthing, Sussex, England around 1911(?), first settling in Gainsborough, SK and then moving on to Swan River. I am hoping to be able to publish some information on this family soon. Siblings James Alfred, Alice and Sidney came to Canada. Siblings Bert and Stan remained in England. ref.
