The Randulf canon of Lincoln and the Randulf son of Bol are not
necessarily the same person.
Ranulph the Canon p. 122 This list of witnesses to a grant given
to the church of Lincoln ca. 1150-1160 shows Randulf to be a canonical
priest and his grandson, Alan, a priest.

Randulf’s grandson Alan is also mentioned
p. 163 Randulf stated to be son-in-law of the Dean in the following
list of witnesses to another land grant to the church of Lincoln (they
assume it is the same Randulf as below)

Randulf is suggested by one tree on ancestry.co.uk as possibly the
same person as Radulfo of Vireneto who is also identified as a Canon of
Lincoln in a grant dated between 1183 and 1189. Radulfo of Vireneto is
also mentioned as a witness in a grant dated 1195-96 from the Bishop of
Lincoln to Newhouse Abbey of some church property including the church
of St Michael of Glentworth (about 2 miles W of Caenby). However, other
sources identify ‘R de Virneto’ to be a Ralph de Vernay, another Canon
of Lincoln, who was installed at the church of Aynho in Northampton
about 1192.
