Following the death of his first wife, John boles announced his intention of marrying Susannah Nicholson a widow [nee Thompson, daughter of Oliver and Susannah Thompson] at the Carlow Men's Meeting 17 11 1699 (Minutes of the Carlow Men's Meeting, Friend's Library, Dublin). The meeting required him to get a certificate from his father-in-law George Baker consenting to the marriage, that he was to make satisfactory arrangements for the care and maintenance of his children by Sarah, and it appointed John Watson, Robert Lecky , Thomas Cooper and Charles Willcocks to persuade George Baker "To do something for his grandchildren". At the Men's Meeting on 29 06 1701, it was reported that a certificate had been received from the Wicklow Provincial Meeting clearing him of "All women" and clearing the way for his marriage to Susannah Nicholson. Similarly a certificate had been received from his deceased wife's mother and father consenting to the marriage.
