The Bowles of Cumberland countyBack to The Bowles of Nova ScotiaThe most important and historically interesting Bowles in Cumberland county would be the descendants of a British Loyalist during the American Revolution, James Bowles, a free man of African descent whose son, Cornelius Bowles, received a grant of land in the Amherst area from the British government in 1783 in return for his father's loyalty. See The Bowles Family of Cumberland Township of African Descent Other than James Bowles line I have only found one other Bowles reference in this area so far. See Miscellaneous Bowles Records in Cumberland county
