Bowles in Carleton County

The William Bowles2 family moved from Quebec City to Bytown (now Ottawa) in 1846 where he operated a boot and shoe store for a few years.  The 1851 Ontario Directory lists William Bowles, Boot and Shoe store on Sussex Street, Lower Town, Bytown.  Two of his children, Robert3 and Henrietta Sarah4, were born there.   Then they moved on to Brighton, Ontario about 1851-53 to join his brother John103.

Later, John Bowles103’ son, William Cochrane Bowles6, moved from Brighton to Ottawa after Confederation and worked as a Clerk in Parliament for many years and raised a family in Ottawa.
