The William Bowles2
family moved from Quebec City to Bytown (now Ottawa) in 1846 where
he operated a boot and shoe store for a few years. The 1851
Ontario Directory lists William Bowles, Boot and Shoe store on
Sussex Street, Lower Town, Bytown. Two of his children, Robert3
and Henrietta Sarah4, were born there. Then
they moved on to Brighton, Ontario about 1851-53 to join his brother
John103.
Later, John Bowles103’
son, William Cochrane Bowles6, moved from Brighton to
Ottawa after Confederation and worked as a Clerk in Parliament for
many years and raised a family in Ottawa.

Several other references not identified yet: A John and Alma Bowell are listed in the 1881 Census of Wellington Ward, Ottawa.
