Guillermo Bowles

A William Bowles of Cork, Ireland became famous in Spain as a botanist and geologist from 1752 to 1780.  He is thought to have been born in Cork in either 1705 or in 1720.

His story is told in several places on the Internet so I will not retell it here.  One of the best accounts is given in the article William "Guillermo" Bowles 1720-1780 by Professor William Reville of University College, Cork.  (backup copy of this article in case it is removed from the Internet)
